Ashford Hospital achieves digital transformation with Rauland Australia

Ashford Hospital in Adelaide has partnered with Rauland Australia to complete an innovative, digital transformation of the way patient information is provided at the point of care.

Ashford Hospital has deployed Rauland Australia’s Concentric Care Patient Information Terminals to provide real-time, patient information digitally at the bedside. The deployment was completed in April 2020 as part of a $33 million re-development project designed to expand clinical services and facilities and improve the patient experience.

Ashford Hospital is a private, not-for-profit hospital and member of Adelaide Community Healthcare Alliance Incorporated (ACHA). Ashford Hospital has been providing healthcare services to its community for more than 70 years and is one of the largest private hospitals in Adelaide offering a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services including specialist cardiac and maternity units and a 24-bed critical care unit. The Hospital has a demonstrated history of commitment to innovation and change being the first private hospital in Adelaide to open an emergency department and to offer cardiac surgery.

The Concentric Care Patient Information Terminal is designed to improve patient safety and clinical efficiency with real-time, patient care information delivered seamlessly via a contemporary digital screen at the bedside.  Integration to the Hospital’s Patient Administration System ensures that information is entered once only – saving time, protecting data integrity and reducing risk.

Kirsty Grant, Director of Nursing, Ashford Hospital commented: “The deployment of the Patient Information Terminals has enabled us to fully digitise what was previously a manual, paper-based system.

This gives us far greater confidence in the accuracy of patient information, reduces clinical administration workload and provides our clinicians with easy access to accurate information – all of which supports quality, patient focused care.”

The Patient Information Terminal displays details of the patient’s care team, expected discharge date, and any specific dietary requirement. In addition, visually intuitive icons are used to indicate if a patient is a falls or pressure injury risk, has any allergies or is dysphagic.

According to Kirsty staff take-up of the new digital system has been very straightforward and seamless, with staff finding the Patient Information Terminal’s very easy and intuitive to use.

“We’re very proud of our hospital and the excellent level of care we provide. It’s very exciting to be able to innovate and introduce new technology that supports improved clinical efficiency, patient safety and quality of care,” she said.

“We’re very happy with the service provided by Rauland; we have a fantastic working relationship with the team here in Adelaide. They are always very responsive and quick to help when we need them.”

Steve Gomes, Director, Rauland Australia commented: “Ashford Hospital has an excellent reputation throughout South Australia. We’re extremely proud to partner with the Ashford team and deploy innovative new technology that delivers tangible improvements in clinical and patient outcomes.”
